Build and Defend Your Raft Raid crew roles
Harpoon, sit, raid — three jobs, one Crew button.
A raid in Build and Defend Your Raft fails in chat before it fails on the lip. The game is live Roblox online PvP (max 18) from Raft Pirates, released 28 July 2026. The Crew button is the roster. The timer is the budget. Gather objectives still want scrap while people argue about who is “DPS.” This page names three jobs that actually exist in the session: harpoon gatherer, defender, and raider. There is no public class list. We will not invent one. Pair this with how to raid, how to defend, and the raid checklist.
Job one: harpoon gatherer
The harpoon is the named gather tool. Someone has to hit debris, return, and feed the Crafting Table. If that person also leaves on every board, the table starves and the next wall never appears.
Gatherer rules
- Perch inside the defended lip so a raid does not strand you in the water.
- Dump scrap before you switch jobs. A full pocket on a sinking plan is wasted.
- You may raid later. You may not vanish with the only harpoon while the sitter has no walls.
- Scrap packs (50 / 150 / 500 for 49 / 249 / 499 Robux) can cover a bad night of aim. They are not a role.
If you are solo, you are the gatherer and the defender in alternating slices of the timer. Accept that. Do not queue a mansion.
Job two: defender (sitter)
The defender is the person who promised to stay. Cannons, spikes, and interior chests only work if a human is there. Official art shows the guns. It does not show an NPC crew.
Defender rules
- Stand where you can see the board line and the chest.
- Reset cannon angles after the raft grows or turns.
- Call the Crew button when a name disappears. Empty boats feed the whole 18-player server.
- Claim the Free Reward cannon and actually place it.
- You do not need a raid kit. You need a turtle kit and a view.
A defender who “just checks one chest on that other raft” is not a defender. Rename the role in chat if you must leave, or cancel the raid.
Job three: raider
Raiding other players’ rafts is a real part of the design. It is not grief for its own sake and it is not required every minute. A raider leaves, boards, steals or fails, and returns before the home timer becomes a donation.
Raider rules
- Leave only after a defender is named on the Crew list.
- Do not take the only harpoon if gather still matters this hour.
- Watch the timer like a budget, not like background music.
- If the target chest is S-tier hidden, leave earlier than your ego wants. Your own boat still exists.
- Read how to raid for the boarding loop instead of treating this page as a parkour guide.
Three raiders and zero sitters is not a crew. It is a group suicide with extra steps.
How many people you actually have
Solo. Slice time: gather, then sit, then maybe a short raid if the server is sleepy. Compact fortress only.
Duo. One gatherer-defender hybrid plus one raider, or both sit during a hot window. Never both raid.
Trio. One of each job. This is the first time a wide deck or a short second story is honest.
More. Extra bodies become a second sitter or a second gatherer. They do not automatically become four raiders. Max 18 on the server includes the people trying to eat you.
Use the Crew button before you place the next plank. Roles collapse when the list is a surprise.
Chat scripts that prevent a wipe
Say the job, not the vibe:
- “I sit cannon.”
- “I harpoon, dump, then sit.”
- “I raid only if you stay.”
- “Timer started, I am back.”
Do not say “I’m coming” while the chest is on the outer plank. Do not say “Frank will save us.” Meet Frank is a badge hunt, not a fourth role.
Saturday and shop, because crews forget
Raft Pirates patches every Saturday. A role that felt easy on Friday can meet a new cost on Saturday. Favorite the Roblox page. Codes, when they exist, go in the Shop redeem field; none were working as of 31 August 2026. A code does not assign a sitter.
Mobile and PC players share the same jobs. We will not invent keybinds. If someone cannot seat the cannon on their device, they gather instead. The role is the view, not the overlay.
After the raid, keep the names
Post-raid is when crews dissolve. The gatherer should already be on the harpoon. The defender should reset spikes if the lip moved. The raider should dump loot inward, not on the welcome mat. Run the raid checklist once out loud. Then play how to defend if the board line looked embarrassing.
Roles are a promise you can screenshot on the Crew button. If the promise is missing, you do not have a raid team. You have friends who like swimming. Name harpoon, sit, and raid before the timer is kind enough to explain it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common raft, raid, and code questions.
What roles should a crew use?
Harpoon gatherer, defender who stays, and raider who leaves only if the first two exist. There is no public class list.
Can we all raid together?
Not if you care about your chest. Empty boats feed a max-18 PvP server. Keep a sitter or skip the board. See how to raid.
What if I am solo?
Alternate gather and sit. Raid only on a sleepy timer. Compact the raft so one person can see the chest.
Does the Crew button assign roles?
It shows names. You still have to say the job. Use it to notice when the sitter vanished.
Where is the pre-raid list?
Use the raid checklist and keep one person on how to defend duty.
