Crafting Table Guide

The Crafting Table is the progression engine of Build and Defend Your Raft. Every Scrap you collect flows through it, and every upgrade unlocks better gear for gathering, defending, or raiding. The table is not a side feature — it is the reason to gather. This page covers the spending priority order, the upgrade logic, and why the table should eat Scrap before your raft gets a second floor.

Released 28 July 2026, online PvP, max 18 players, Saturday patches. For the build logic that makes floor tiles secondary to table upgrades, see how to build. For the gather loop that fills the table, see resource collection.

What the Crafting Table does

The Crafting Table consumes Scrap to unlock gear, defenses, and structural pieces. Each row on the table represents an unlock: a new defense piece, a new weapon, a new floor tile, or a structural upgrade. The table is the single source of truth for what your raft can actually build.

Public recipe lists are incomplete. Anyone posting a full table with exact Scrap costs is guessing. What is confirmed from the UI: the table has rows, each row has a cost, and spending Scrap on a row unlocks the associated piece. Costs that are not visible in the live UI are not published here.

The spending priority order

Scrap is finite per session. The table is large per server. Spend in this order:

  1. Defense upgrades first — cannons, spikes, and walls before cosmetic tiles. A defended raft keeps its loot. An upgraded table on an open deck is a target.
  2. Core structural pieces — floor tiles that create a compact defended footprint, not wide decks that sprawl.
  3. Gathering tools — if the table has a harpoon or gather efficiency upgrade, prioritize it. More gathering speed means more Scrap per session.
  4. Raid kit — only after the home raft is defended. A perfect raid kit on an undefended raft is a loan to whoever raids you.
  5. Cosmetic and expansion — extra floors, decorative pieces, flags. These come last, after the core is actually defended.

Why the table before the second story

A common mistake in the first hour is to spend Scrap on floor tiles while the Crafting Table sits at the starter level. The table multiplier is worth more than additional deck space that has no coverage. More precisely:

  • A level 2 table with level 1 defenses beats a level 1 table with level 2 floors
  • The table unlocks better defenses, not just more floors
  • Until the table is fed, the raft is not actually upgraded — it is just larger

The rule: if the Crafting Table can eat Scrap, feed it before you add floor tiles.

Saturday patch check

Raft Pirates ships updates every Saturday. A new patch can add rows to the Crafting Table, change the cost of existing rows, or unlock entirely new categories of gear. After every Saturday update:

  1. Open the Crafting Table before you open the Shop
  2. Look for new rows or changed costs
  3. Re-rank your spending priority based on what is new
  4. Adjust your gather plan if a new unlock changes the meta

The table is the first thing that changes after a patch. Check it before you trust last week’s spend order.

Defense spending specifics

Defense upgrades on the table follow their own priority:

  1. Walls — the basic perimeter piece. If the table has a wall unlock, it is the first purchase before decorative floors.
  2. Spikes — the anti-boarding layer. Spikes on the deck lip slow raiders and create a cost for entry.
  3. Cannons — the ranged deterrent. Point at approach angles, not empty water.
  4. Advanced defenses — anything beyond the basic three. Check the table after each patch.

For the full defense logic, see how to defend. For the placement geometry that makes defenses effective, see loot protection.

Table hunger and gather pressure

A Crafting Table that is never fed is a table that is not doing its job. The table creates pressure to keep gathering: every unlock makes the next one more attractive, and every session should end with the table partially or fully upgraded before you log off.

The gather pressure loop:

  • Table has a next unlock worth X Scrap
  • You gather until you have X Scrap
  • You spend X Scrap on the table
  • A new unlock appears worth Y Scrap
  • Repeat

The loop is the game. Breaking it to buy decorative floors before the table is upgraded is how you end up with a pretty raft and a starter table.

What this page will not invent

No exact Scrap costs that are not visible in the live UI. No unlock order beyond the priority categories above. No hidden recipes or unpublished table rows. If a Saturday patch adds a row, this page will quote the new row after it is visible in the game. Until then, the spending order above is the honest guide.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common raft, raid, and code questions.

What should I spend Scrap on first?

Crafting Table upgrades first — specifically defense upgrades like walls and spikes before floor tiles. The table multiplier is worth more than additional deck space that has no coverage.

Should I upgrade the table or add floors first?

Upgrade the table first. A level 2 table with level 1 defenses beats a level 1 table with level 2 floors. The table unlocks better defenses, not just more floors.

How do Saturday patches affect the Crafting Table?

Check the table after every Saturday update. New rows can change the optimal spend. Open the Crafting Table before you open the Shop after a patch.

What defense pieces should I unlock first?

Walls first, then spikes on the deck lip, then cannons covering approach angles. Advanced defenses come after the basic three are in place.

When should I stop upgrading the table and start expanding the deck?

When the table has no more affordable rows and the core is defended. A compact defended raft with an upgraded table beats a wide deck with a starter table.
