Resource Collection in Build and Defend Your Raft
Harpoon, gather counters, and the Scrap loop — how to build without buying packs.
Resources in Build and Defend Your Raft flow through one currency: Scrap. Everything you craft, every upgrade on the Crafting Table, every defense piece and floor tile costs Scrap. Getting it efficiently is the difference between a compact defended raft by Hour 5 and a wide empty deck by Hour 20. This page covers the verified gather loop, the role of harpoon and objectives, and why Scrap packs in the Shop are optional skips, not a required purchase.
Released 28 July 2026, online PvP, max 18 players, Saturday patches. For spending order, see Crafting Table. For shop details, see Shop.
The Scrap currency
Scrap is the single resource that drives progression. The Crafting Table consumes it. Defenses consume it. Floor tiles and walls consume it. The gather loop exists to produce it, and the harpoon is the tool that produces it.
There is no secondary currency confirmed in public materials. No gems, no gold, no separate wood type. If a HUD element shows a number, it is likely Scrap or a gather fraction tied to Scrap production.
The harpoon gather loop
The Click to shoot harpoon prompt appears when junk is in range. That prompt is the core loop:
- Aim at floating debris or resource objects in the water
- Left-click to fire
- Reel in what the harpoon catches
- Repeat until the gather counter shows completion
The gather counter looks like Gathered 0/5 or similar fractions. Completing the objective advances the gather phase and produces Scrap. How much Scrap per gather is not published in a public stat table; the Crafting Table is where you see the cumulative effect.
Floating resources and server density
Resources spawn in the water around active rafts. A busy server with many rafts will have more floating debris than a quiet one. If the water around your raft looks empty, two explanations are equally likely: the server is quiet, or you are looking in the wrong direction.
Harpoon range is limited. You shoot toward junk, not across the map. A raft positioned near a dense debris field will gather faster than a raft in empty water. If gathering feels slow, swim a short distance from the raft to find the nearest cluster.
Gather objectives and session pressure
The timer at the top of the HUD (values such as 01:58 appear in screenshots) adds session pressure. Objectives are timed. A raider who waits for a perfect gather while the timer runs down is a raider who missed the window.
The practical gather habit:
- Finish gather objectives before vanity building
- Do not idle on a half-full counter while the timer counts down
- Move between debris clusters rather than waiting for one spot to respawn
Optional Scrap packs
The Shop sells Scrap bundles: 50 / 150 / 500 Scrap for 49 / 249 / 499 Robux. These are optional. The harpoon loop produces Scrap without spending Robux, and the pace is reasonable for a session that does not involve buying packs.
When to consider a pack:
- When the Crafting Table has a critical upgrade and you are short on the last few hundred Scrap
- When time is the limiting factor and a session is ending soon
- Never as a substitute for learning the gather loop itself
The gather loop is the skill. Packs skip the loop; they do not teach it.
The Free Reward cannon
The right side of the HUD shows a claimable Free Reward cannon. It appears periodically and can be claimed without cost. When it is available, claim it and return to the harpoon. It is not a substitute for gathering, but it adds incremental value to the session.
Crafting Table spending order
Collected Scrap goes to the Crafting Table first. The spending priority is:
- Crafting Table upgrades — unlock better gear before cosmetic pieces
- Defense pieces — walls and spikes before floor tiles
- Floor tiles and expansion — only after the core is defended
- Raid kit — only when the home raft is secure
Do not spend on floor tiles while the Crafting Table is hungry. The table multiplier is worth more than additional deck space that has no coverage.
After a Saturday patch
Recheck the gather rate after a Saturday update. New unlock rows on the Crafting Table can change the optimal spend. If a new defense piece appears, the priority order may shift toward that piece before additional floor tiles.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common raft, raid, and code questions.
What is the main resource in Build and Defend Your Raft?
Scrap. It is the single currency for Crafting Table upgrades, defenses, floor tiles, and walls. The harpoon loop produces it.
How do I gather resources efficiently?
Use the harpoon when the 'Click to shoot harpoon' prompt appears. Aim at floating debris in range, fire, reel in, and repeat until the gather counter fills. Move between debris clusters rather than waiting for one spot.
Are Scrap packs worth buying?
Optional. The harpoon loop produces Scrap without spending Robux. Packs skip the grind; they do not teach it. Consider a pack only when the Crafting Table has a critical upgrade and you are short on the final Scrap.
What is the Free Reward cannon?
A periodically claimable reward on the right side of the HUD. No cost to claim. Not a substitute for gathering, but adds incremental value to the session.
What should I spend Scrap on first?
Crafting Table upgrades first, then defense pieces, then floor tiles. Do not spend on floor tiles while the table is hungry for Scrap. See the Crafting Table for the full spend order.
